How Electric Dog Fencing Can Benefit Both Dog And Owner
Our domestic dogs are actually descended from wild wolves and have been continuously bred over the centuries into the many different breeds that we have today. Just like their wolf ancestors, dogs are extremely active creatures and need exercise in order to stay healthy. Without adequate exercise, dogs can become depressed, obese and unhealthy, eventually leading to various health problems and even an early death. With electric dog fencing, dog owners are now able to provide dogs with the space and exercise that they require in order to stay healthy. The invisible dog fence is a relatively recent invention that allows dog owners to keep their dogs safe, give them a larger space in which to run and play, and avoid the need to put up unsightly physical fencing.
Dog owners who have to go to work every day often face a dilemma when it comes to what to do with their dogs while they are away from home. Many first-time dog owners try leaving their dogs locked indoors while they are at work. Many active dogs end up wreaking havoc within the house, however, once they are no longer supervised by their owners. Other dog owners keep their dogs chained inside their kennels, and while this helps to keep the peace within the house, it is also extremely limiting for the dog to have to stay within or nearby its kennel for the entire day.
The invisible dog fence was a revolution in dog-related accessories that now allows dog owners to give their dogs all the space they need outside of their homes without having to worry about their dogs running away. Some dog owners who were really concerned about their dogs' happiness would build physical fences around the perimeter of their properties to provide their dogs with a large area in which to run and play. Such fences are extremely unsightly, however, no matter how nice the material used to build the fence is. In addition, dogs love to dig and burrow through grass and soil, and there have been many recorded cases of dogs digging their way under a fence and getting loose.
With electric dog fencing, however, there is no visible fencing above-ground. Instead, the fence itself consists of a single wire that runs along the perimeter of your property or whatever boundary you wish to establish. The wire works with a collar worn by your dog, thus establishing the invisible dog fence. A receiver attached to the collar senses whenever it comes into close proximity with the underground electric dog fencing wire.
When the receiver sense that your dog has come too close to the fence boundary, it first emits a warning tone that is designed to inform your dog that it should not be moving so close to the boundary of the invisible dog fence. If your dog continues to move towards the boundary, the receiver will apply an electrostatic shock that increases in severity the closer it gets to the invisible dog fence. These electrostatic shocks cause discomfort, and your dog soon learns where it can roam freely without any discomfort and where the boundaries of the electric dog fencing are.
